The Miranda do Douro is a region in north-east Portugal, of some 500 km², where there is spoken a different language, Mirandês, which was made official a few years ago. It´s neither a Portuguese dialect, nor a Spanish (Castilian) dialect. It´s a variant of the Astur-Leonese language. It´s spoken by a few thousand people in the municipality of Miranda do Douro and in some communes of the municipalities of Vimioso and Mogadouro. At an obsolete page there was a flag proposed by an unknown Freedom Party of the Mirandese Valley / Association for the Unity and Identity of the People of the Mirandese Motherland. According to the website of this party their goals are:
- freedom and unity for our people
- independence for our fatherland of free man
- for an equality society;
- the country of Miranda is neither Portugal nor Spain.

The flag was quartered of red and yellow, divided by a white centred cross, in the centre within the crossbars is a small coat of arms, displaying the arms of Miranda do Douro Municipality, but with an empty white scroll.
